Macaulay Makes His First Bit Of Fereneze History

Tuesday Medal 8
You'll know from my communications I'm not the sort of guy that is stuck for words very often but I have been since last night when I learned of Callum's sensational 62 and new course record. This beats the previous best of 64 from Graeme McTweed which stood for a few years and looked fairly secure for the mere mortals trying to break it!
The numbers speak for themselves but let me give you a little bit of commentary and I make no apologies about making this largely about the course record, it's an important landmark for all courses.
- Now you might think with a 62 that winning the nett Medal would be a given but with a course handicap of +6 it wasn't, however Callum did manage that courtesy of the BIH from Chris McGregor who had an 81 for nett 68.
- Callum hit 16 greens and had 27 putts.
- His last 3 rounds have been 67-65-62...just the 18 under par!
Now for a couple of quotes:
Playing partner Barrie McKay
"Was the most incredible thing I've seen on a golf course" don't forget he's played golf with brother Daniel but I think his incredible things on a golf course are a different kind of incredible!
And
"Scary thing was could have been better"...just what you want to hear when you're one of the low guys!
From the man himself
"Ball striking was as good as it's ever been tonight, especially in the wind, distance control was on the money, pin high most of the night"
And just to finish it off with some wholesome family feel good value Michael Hart mentioned to Evan (Callum's boy) on the putting green that his old man was -5. Bit of leaderboard watching and confident he wouldn't throw away his 9 under thru 17, the boys made their way up to see him finish on 18...inspiring the next generation of Macaulay's.....won't be long before we're playing for 4th instead of just 2nd!
Personally speaking, with my secretary and golfer's hat on it's great for the club to have a player of Callum's pedigree as a member, it gives the low guys something to aim for and can show the young members how it's done!
Order of Merits
One big winner was Callum who picked up maximum points for both OOMs. That's 2 wins from 2 in the scratch section. He moves from 91st to 5th in the nett. and from 8th to 4th in the Scratch.
The nett order of merit is wide open, anyone, and I mean anyone could win that with what's left of the season, Stuart McIntosh continues to lead the way from Ian Graham, Fraser McDowall lies in 3rd with Kevin Macdonald in 4th. The other big mover aside from Callum was Chris McGregor who moved from 94th to 12th.
In the Scratch Richie Elrick continues to lead the way, that was his 4th event, 3 wins and now a 6th. It's played 4, 4 2nd place finishes for me. Captain Tommy Kelly lies in 3rd with Callum and Mark Turnbull making up the top 5.
