A First For Fraser In Record Breaking Field
Record Breaker
Firstly a huge thanks to those that took part yesterday. 91 players is the most we have on record playing in a Tuesday Medal, beating the previous record, also set this season in Medals 1&2. At a time when some clubs are reporting the death of competitions thanks to General Play at Fereneze we're bucking the trend and that warms the heart of your Match Secretary, thank you, it genuinely makes the job much more worthwhile when I see this level of engagement.
Tuesday Medal 4
This win has been coming and it's nice to see Fraser McDowall steadily improve his handicap over the last number of years. He was a peer of a few of us during our junior days and it's lovely to see him pick up a victory yesterday. His success was built on a superb back 9 of 34 which included 2 birdies at 13 and 16. That all added up to a nett 66 and a one shot victory over Davey Davidson.
Davey demonstrated much determination, bouncing back from dropping 5 shots at 2 and 3, steadying the ship thereafter and throwing in 3 3s in his last 5 holes for 67.
A slightly different tale for Declan Walsh who started birdie-birdie then had a wobble but recovered to have a very good back 9 for nett 68.
Another 7 players finished under par nett.
Although no prize for Scratch (other than Order of Merit points) it was Richie Elrick who had a best of the day, 6 birdie 68. It's been a wee bit of a mixed bag for Richie score wise this year, but he's getting the benefit handicap wise from making his lower scores better than the lower ones last year. Kieran Boyd and Mark Turnbull both recorded 72s.
Order of Merits
Scratch
Richie made it 3 from 3 so far in Tuesday Medals and he's the hot favourite to take this title from Jim Coleman this year, although with the variance in points being much bigger for a high place finish it's certainly not all over at this stage. Kieran Boyd's 2nd consecutive 2nd place moves him from 5th into 2nd and Richie's nearest challenger. Despite just 1 appearance (a win) Callum Macaulay remains 3rd.
Nett
It's a much tighter affair in the nett category. Ian Graham regains top spot thanks to his 14th place finish and 210 points. Fraser jMcDowall jumps from 46th to second, his previous best finish this season being 21st. Last week's winner Stuart McIntosh sat this one out but remains 3rd. Stuart Syme (played 1, won 1) slips from 3rd to 4th.
