Our first midweek medal took place yesterday with 83 players taking part, that's 15 more than the same event last year, that always makes the Match Secretary part of me smile...the golfer part not so much after yesterday but more on that shortly!
Course Analytics
I could just copy and paste this most weeks...but the 3rd was the most difficult hole on the course, we moved back to the "lower" tee and the hole played about a quarter of a shot harder than on Saturday. There was only one birdie on the 3rd....the guy that birdied that must be some player! The 6th was the 2nd hardest hole playing 1.43 over it's par of 5.
The 9th was the easiest hole on the course, 14 birdies in total, 3 of which came from our group. Mark Turnbull hit a 6 iron from the tee to within about 5 yards of the front edge....a 6 iron?? The 7th was the 2nd easiest hole on the course (not for me) playing 0.6 over it's par.
Unusually there were more 2s in Division 2 (my alternative name for classes in midweek medals) 10 to 5 and there were les players in that category too. Michael Devine recording 2 as well.
Tuesday Medal
Nett 66 was good enough to take the first midweek prize of the season, Ian Graham completing halves of 42 and 39 less his 15 for nett 66. His round included the only birdie of the day at 12 and nothing worse than nett bogey, although still coming out on top it could have been much better but for the 6 at the last. Well done Ian. a winning start and also top of the nett Order of Merit standings after one round.
2 players finished on 2 under nett, Brian Johnston and Gordon Smith. Brian pipped Gordon courtesy of the better inward half. An impressive two 2's on Brian's card at 4 and 14, 2 of only 5 in Division 1. Gordon will be cursing a poor start and finish, 6 at the first and 7 at 17 the outliers in an otherwise really solid round of golf. All nett pars and birdies on the whole apart from those 2 misdemeanours. 2 other players, David Allan and Eddie Sloan finished under par nett at -1.
Although no prize for the Scratch score we are running the Gross Order of Merit again and it was Callum Macaulay who came out on top, worryingly he wasn't anywhere near his best, (he hit 17 greens in regulation by the way) especially with the putter but still got it round in 2 under par for 69. My 3 putt at the last meant I couldn't quite match that so settled for 70 with Michael Hart Jr a further shot back on 71.
